Abstract

Circle grid Fractal plate is a flow straightener use to eliminate the swirl and generate the standard velocity profile for internal flow. In this paper, incompressible turbulent swirling flow through circle grid fractal plate has been studied. Furthermore, axial velocity and tangential velocity of the flow also has been recorded to investigate the losses of both type of velocity after through the plates. Moreover, the comparison of velocity contour and velocity streamline between free swirling flow and swirling flow through Fractal plate also have been studied. The analysis and result were carried out using finite volume CFD software. There are three types of plates were used with different in thickness (1mm,3mm and 6mm) in the numerical investigation. The simulation showed that the thicker circle grid Fractal plate (6mm) give an efficient result as a flow straightener. The swirling flow through the circle grid Fractal plate efficiently produced a standard velocity profile flow. Moreover, the flow after through the plate is more uniform.
